Harmonious Herbal Smoke Blend Recipe
A beautiful blend of plant allies that will connect you to your center, open your heart, while calming the mind - creating harmony within.
This soft and beautiful herbal smoke blend will offer relief from the busy mind, it will soften the body and open the heart. This blend is THC and Tobacco free. Herbs are non habit-forming and can be beneficial for people attempting to quit more addictive substances like tobacco and cannabis.
For my personal blends I add in hemp flower, for its medicinal benefits. I also have clients that add a bit of cannabis to their blends, as the herbs provide a sweet and soft energy while smoking THC.
I added in this ritual a few years ago for stress relief and support with sleep. I eventually started to experiment with different blends and eventually incorporated smoking, into my ceremony, ritual and yoga/meditation practices. I make a variety of blends to help support the body in different ways. The blend below has a multitude of uses with the main intention to create harmony within the body system. I like to smoke this blend when I am looking for a nervous system reset, and want some support during my meditation practice. It can be used anytime you wish to unwind, relax and calm the mind. Perhaps create a beautiful ritual bath for yourself, light some candles, play some soft music and soak and smoke. With the addition of blue lotus it is perfect for meditation, and ritual work.
Smoke is believed to form a pathway to the spirit world which can then carry our thoughts, feelings and prayers to the Creator. When using this blend it is suggested to create a ritual practice, working with these plant allies can assist us in sacred practices such as mediation, yoga, and ceremony. While the essence and spirit of each plant opens the heart, the smoke carries your prayers and intentions toward the heavens.
Smoking herbal blends has roots in ancient ceremonial practices. Many Indigenous groups, including the Blackfoot, Cheyenne, and Chippewas peoples, would dry the leaves of different plants to smoke for their healing or ritualistic properties. In Egypt Priests would burn herbs like mint and thyme as offerings to the gods. In Ayurveda smoking different herbs (Dhumpana) was believed to release the plant's medicinal properties throughout the neck and head region.
Herbal smoke is said to swiftly deliver healing properties of the plants to the wounded part of the body which makes this a practice of healing.
Today, individuals who enjoy the act of smoking are seeking a more subdued, non-addictive, or habit-forming alternative. Whether attempting to reduce and control their usage or wean themselves off of tobacco or cannabis, mixing in certain herbs can aid significantly in these efforts. Why smoke herbal blends? It allows for us to receive the medicinal properties of the plant as quickly as possible through our blood stream.
There are dozens, if not hundreds, of herbs that cab be smoked for their medicinal properties. Each plant has a specific energetic frequency and medicinal property that we awaken when we work with them. Depending on what type of result you are hoping for, will determine which blend you use or create. I listed the medicinal benefits of each herb in this blend for your reference:
Calendula: This flower is known for its mood boosting benefits and anti-inflammatory compounds. It has a soft and subtle citrusy taste and fragrance. It was used in ancient Egyptian for rituals and ceremonies, the euphoric state helped to create a space to commune with the divine. Also helps to open up emotional pathways. You’ll enjoy its slightly sweet and floral taste.
Damiana: It was said that this herb was used by the Maya to increase sexual potency, encouraging the restoration of sexual power - having an aphrodisiac effect for both men and women. It acts as a tonic for the central nervous system and hormonal system. This herb is also mood-lifting and offers support with anxiety.

“When using mixed smoke blends, with many different plant ingredients, a concept in herbalism known as ‘synergy’ takes place. This helps the effects of different medicinal herbs become synergistic within the body, creating greater relief than when taken alone.”
Harmonious Herbal Smoke Blend Recipe:
Note: When working with plant allies in a ritualistic and ceremonial way, I recommend taking a minute to be with the essence and spirit of each plant. Close your eyes and breathe in your intentions, awakening the magic and medicine of the plant. Thank it for its presence and for the work you will do together.
I like to make a bigger batch of this blend and store it in a jar with a label. You can also make just enough for a pipeful or a spliff. I typically work with herbs intuitively, and eyeball it a lot of the time. Here is a base recipe to work with, you can switch it up however you want to. In this recipe I use passion flower as the “base herb” but you can add in mugwort, raspberry leaf, marshmallow root, or mullein as additional base herbs.
2 parts passion flower
2 parts damiana
1 part calendula
1 part spearmint
1/2 part lavender
1/4 part blue lotus
1/4 part rose
I like to use a molcajete (mortar and pestle) to break up the herbs individually. I have some clients that add the blend into a weed grinder to create even more softness before rolling or smoking in a pipe. I add in CBD/hemp flower during the smoothing process. You can add in any other of your favorite herbs, weed or tobacco during this part of the process.
Once the herbs have reached your desired texture, add them together and they are ready for you to roll up in your choice of papers or load a little in your pipe of preference. I have a small sacred pipe I use during rituals, but also love using handmade lotus flower and rose petal cones.
Create a space to sit and be, allowing a moment of stillness while smoking your blend. Feeling the essence of each herb unfolding in your system, the mind slowing down and the heart opening.
Enjoy!!
