Postpartum Care
Though this may be an exciting part of your journey, at times it may also feel overwhelming. I am so exciting you are here, and seeking the support that you need. Society often tells us that postpartum care is a luxury, but in reality it is a necessity in order for families to thrive andfor parents to feel empowered during this transformative event.
As a Full-Spectrum Postpartum Doula, Lactation Educator and ancestral healing practitioner, with a trauma-informed lens, I weave traditional holistic healing practices with modern-day postpartum care to encourage restoration and balance, creating a space for the body to heal naturally after birth, while inviting an environment where baby and birthing parent can thrive.
I believe in addressing the physical, emotional, and practical needs of new parents, supporting overall well-being during this transformative time.
Throughout many traditions the first 40 days after birth are honored and encouraged, providing the body with an opportunity to sink into the “sacred window” of healing. Allowing for the reset of the entire system. This is a tradition that has often been denied in modern society, as the reigns of capitalism have taken over the importance of the slow down and stillness needed to properly heal the body after this remarkable rite of passage has been experienced.
I offer Basic Postpartum Care which includes: an assessment, and a customized plan. With a focus on the birth parents' physical and emotional healing, well-being; rest, recovery, and nourishment, we are able to support an environment where baby can thrive. Ancestral Healing practices can be weaved into this care model if the client chooses.
I also offer a variety of modalities to encourage deep physical and spiritual healing during the sacred window of postpartum, known as Traditional Postpartum Care, which has been passed down for centuries. This includes ceremonies and body work, along with traditional folk herbalism.
I also offer Basic Postpartum Care which includes: an assessment, and a customized plan. With a focus on the birth parents' physical and emotional healing, well-being; rest, recovery, and nourishment, we are able to support an environment where baby can thrive. “The postpartum period is a time for birthing parents to recover and take on new roles. In many cultures, it is also seen as a precarious period, rendering the new parent vulnerable to illness, & specific traditional practices are observed to ensure recovery and avoid ill health in later years.”
Holistic Healing Practices for the Postpartum Body
It is an honor to hold space for mothers during the 40-day sacred window of healing—weaving together traditional holistic healing practices with modern-day postpartum care.
Closing of the Bones
This treatment of ancestral Mexican origin is also called “La Cerrada”. It’s generally offered to mark an important event in life (wedding, birth, death of loved one, change in career, change in living situations). It has historically been a ceremony honoring the rites of passages for women, but is also an offering that can be beneficial for anyone experiencing imbalance after going through a major life event.
This is a medicine that can be provided during the sacred window of postpartum right after giving birth, while also extremely beneficial during any season of motherhood, closing not only the physical openings of the body experienced during birth, but also a closing of the energetic portals opened during this time. The energy and, sometimes trauma, we experience during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum time lingers for years until it is addressed and healed.
During pregnancy and birth, the physical body opens and widens to accommodate the baby, this beautiful and sacred practice provides the return of proper alignment of the pelvis, sacrum, & bones - encouraging optimal body mechanics. While the act of childbirth is a powerful moment of connection between the physical and spiritual realms, acting as a gateway where a new soul enters the world, spiritual portals are also open during this time. During labor, the "veil" between dimensions is believed to be particularly thin, allowing for a deeper connection to the spiritual realm.
When the body remains open it is easy for our animistic forces to leave the body, leaving a void for illness and imbalance to occur.
Women often experience discomfort with an overall imbalanced feeling years after giving birth, this can be an indication of the emotional body holding onto types of trauma experienced during birth. Closing these openings brings a sense of honoring of the experience and the release of any emotions that are ready to be freed from the body, providing a sense of closure and restoration to the entire body system, while also calling missing pieces of your soul back to your body, allowing for wholeness and vitality after birth. Giving back to your body, after all it has done for you.
Together we will create a safe space to allow emotions, feelings, and thoughts to flow.
La Cerrada is traditionally paired with a Sobada (body work) to calm and relax, offering an opportunity to drop into the body before the ceremony. Read more about the practice of Sobada and womb massage, below.

“As womb carriers, we are guardians of life, and it is so very important that we empower ourselves by learning how to care for our feminine bodies.”
Sobada (postpartum bodywork)
An ancient ancestral practice of Mexican Traditional Medicine as a remedy to assist the changes experienced during birth. As the hormones recalibrate and the organs return to their optimal positioning, bodywork is an integral part of a woman's/birthing-person's recovery. During the massage, often times a release of repressed emotions may occur. A womb massage is also provided during the sobada session, a traditional womb massage releases tension held by the fascia during pregnancy and supports and stimulates the uterus after birth. You can read more about the womb massage below.
This bodywork is done with customized herbal oil blends to assist in the healing process, offering lymph support and a reset for the nervous system, restoring balance in the body.
“A ritual massage is one of the most intricate and effective forms of caring for the body after pregnancy, birth and postpartum.”
Womb Massage
In Mexican Traditional Medicine womb massage is called sobada de la matriz. The womb is seen as a sacred portal and special attention is given after birth, to ensure proper healing.
The womb needs warmth to heal, and this gentle spiral womb massage is warming and nourishing. It can be done during the second half of the 40-day period, as the womb recovers and works toward repairing itself. This soft practice helps the uterus and muscles return to their pre-pregnancy state, providing nourishment to relax the womb, and allowing deeper healing. Every spiral rotation helps you transform your matriz (womb) and life.
This practice can be offered alone, or as part of the sobada session. When booking your session please indicate what your preference is.
*There is a deeper womb massage that helps to reset the uterus, this massage can be offered after the sacred 40-day window.
“Slowing down and connecting with your womb is a sacred act.”
Herbal Remedies
The sacred art of folk herbalism involves the ritual application of herbal remedies to aid in the healing and restoration of the postpartum body. Offering blood-building, nutritive, anti-inflammatory tonic herbs helps support the body’s natural healing process. Each Postpartum visit will include a personalized, homemade blend to help the body mend and reset after the birthing process.
These remedies include and are not limited to: teas, baths, vaginal compress, and steams, body oils for mom and baby, salves, and herbal cleansing sweeps. Each blend is lovingly created in a ceremonial space with intention—customized for each client's needs.

Nutritional Support
During the first 40 days, it is imperative to feed the body well for optimal healing. This organized support for the birthing parent encourages prescribed food to be eaten or prohibited, utilizing gastronomy—the art of selecting, preparing, serving, and enjoying nutritious and nourishing, warming foods for the body and womb to heal. Gastronomy is grounded in relationships between food, culture, and tradition. Homemade soups, stews, and teas are recommended, along with fresh fruits, vegetables, and oatmeals. A menu will be provided for you to choose from. Meals can be provided and prepared in the home or given as a care package, dropped off at a scheduled time.

So many people have little access to these types of holistic practices of healing and support. To bridge the gap that has been created by capitalism, I created the Community Doula Support Program which offers services to families at low cost and at no charge. I donate a certain amount of hours of services each month to specific families in need. Application is required.
There are many incredible care providers in the Colorado community. If you are looking for a pelvic floor therapist, newborn photography, or mental health support you can find a list of resources here.
“My role as an ancestral healer transcends the confines of postpartum doula work, which typically avoid non-western concepts of healing.”
As a mother myself
I understand the depth that is motherhood/parenthood. I have witnessed for myself the importance of support during the many phases of this transformational time, from conception to the postpartum period and beyond.
As a mother of three, and a member of the marginalized community, I have experienced my own trauma during the birthing and postpartum period. My desire to be in service in this way to the women in my community has stemmed from my own need for support during the postpartum period time; having had both types of experiences of receiving support during this time and not receiving. Society does not typically place a lot of importance on this sacred window of time that mothers/birthing parent and their children need for proper healing and bonding. We live in a capitalistic society that places the importance on purchasing items to speed the process of healing in order to get the birthing person back into the rotation of the machine.
I was blessed to have an abuela (grandmother) that offered traditional and non-traditional support during two of my births. By the third baby, life was a whirlwind and I hadn’t planned for much time after by birth, which was traumatic and overwhelming. This was the pregnancy I could have used the support with the most. My grandmother was no longer able to provide support in the ways she had before and the absence of this type of support was loud.
“The weeks following birth are a critical period for a woman and her infant, setting the stage for long-term health and well-being. During this time postpartum care is fragmented among maternal and pediatric health care providers.”
Receiving this type of love and care when the body and mind are so depleted, is what helps to feed balance in the system for optimal healing. I was able to bond, heal and create an environment where my baby and I could just be. This was 26 years ago when the pressures of social media and societies expectations for mothers weren't being fed to us on a constant basis, which made it a bit easier to create this types of introspective and soft experiences.
Whether you identify as a new birth mother, parent or are an adopted mother/parent, these offerings are for you if you are seeking empowered support, education and assistance in creating an environment for more intentional living and bonding with your new baby.
My intention is to hold space for these slower and more intentional types of environments for mother/birthing parent/parent and baby, that will benefit not only their immediate family but eventually their community, as they will be more grounded in their role as a mother/parent and their bond with baby will that much stronger.
