This warming drink is nourishing and replenishing during the stages of life that add stress to the body, when the body feels depleted, and our reserves have been used up.

Ojas literally translates to “vigour” it is the subtle essence of our reproductive fluid.

This isn’t your ordinary tea or warm drink, it’s more like a hug in a mug, that boosts the system in ways we are sure to notice, not just on a physical level, but also a spiritual level. .

This beautiful drink has been a companion of mine ime and time again, during some of the darkest days I have encountered, when I am seeking nourishment and a return of my vitality. I also recommend this drink to my postpartum clients, who often experience depletion after giving birth. I have had people drink this after surgeries, once they have been cleared by their doctor.

We can expect a boost in:

  • Mental Strength

  • Contentment

  • Patience

  • Fortitude

  • Calmness

  • Deep understaning

  • Mental Clarity

There are a variety of ways that can deplete our Ojas, as in the practice of MTM (Mexican Traditional Medicine) it is believed that when our life force energy is low, it is important to view the body as a whole, nutrition is a big part of the puzzle piece that brings us back to wholeness. This recipe is part of the philosophy of Ayurveda, the sister science to yoga and a way of living and being. Ayurveda is not of my culture, so I am in deep gratitude to have access to this beautiful medicine. I have received a number of hours training in this philosophy and love to share this knowledge of healing with my clients. Bowing in deep honor to the original keepers and teachers of this ancient tradition. To learn more about this ancient tradition, please visit my journal entry The Philosophy of Ayurveda

Ojas Milk Recipe:

This recipe can be made ahead of time and stored in a glass jar for up to two days in the fridge. If you struggle with sleep issues, it is encouraged to drink before bed, creating a relaxed state of being as a part of a nourishing bedtime ritual that invites deep rest.

Note: Organic ingredients are always encouraged. If not available, you will still receive the benefits wihile using what’s on hand.

  • 1-2 cups plant-based milk

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/4 turmeric

  • 1/4 cardamom

  • 1 pinch of saffron

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil or ghee

  • 1 tbsp of dates

  • 1 tbsp coconut meat (optional)

  • 6-8 almonds (can be blanched for easier digestion)

  • pinch of rose petals, dried (optional)

  • pinch of pepper (for golden milk Ojas)

  1. Place milk in a saucepan (clay or stainless steel) over medium/low heat. Add all ingredients to the pot and simmer, to allow for the softening of the dates and the release of the herbs, 5-8 minutes. Careful not to allow a high boil.

  2. Once the water has reached the desired heat, place all ingredients in a blender and blend on high.

  3. If the mixture is thick you can add some hot water and save some for the next day.

  4. The dates add a bit of sweetness, but you are welcome to add a sweetener of your choice. I recommend locally sourced honey.

  5. It is recommended to drink every night before bed for up to three months. I enjoyed this ritual for a week, nightly and witnessed a shift immediately. My system felt nourished, and replenished as I rebuilt my Ojas levels.

Enjoy!
